After defeating UTSA 55-17, the North Texas football team will be in a bowl game this upcoming Winter. At (6-1) with five games remaining, the Mean Green controls their destiny with their best start since 1959.
Apparently, these AP and Coaches polls doesn't respect the number one scoring offense in the country. UNT has yet to enter the polls, but with an offense that's better than the Texas Longhorns, the Mean Green deserves to be in it. Their only loss so far came from a Top 25 team, South Florida. North Texas is having one of their best seasons in school history. It's just a shame that these polls doesn't think too highly of successful schools that aren't in a power conference.
The Mean Green is expected to finish the regular season at (10-2) or even (11-1). They are the heavy favorites to beat Navy at home. The American Conference is just too weak. North Texas has more home games than on the road which is why they have such huge advantages.
This team is good enough to play in any of the power conferences, and so far, they've shown that. UNT quarterback Drew Mestemaker is only a freshman but is putting up award-winning numbers. The University of North Texas in Denton has been making noise on the basketball side of things, but it's good that their football program is getting some attention they rightfully deserve.
It's also been since 1959 when the Mean Green was in the top 25. With such a high-powered offense that's second to none, UNT's long-standing curse may finally be broken.
